Nicosia is the last divided capital in Europe, and walking it means walking around a wall nobody mentions. From the star-shaped Venetian ramparts through a shopping street that ends at a checkpoint, to a mosque that was a cathedral and a museum with idols nine thousand years old. On the way, the crossing that has let people through to the other side of the city since 2003 — and for twenty-seven years before that, did not.
