The Rione Sanità is the most Neapolitan piece of Naples and the one guidebooks avoided longest. From the museum where the treasures of Pompeii ended up, past the finest staircase in the city and the early Christian catacombs, to the ossuary at the Fontanelle, where a cult grew up with no equal in the Catholic world - people chose a stranger's skull, cared for it, and expected the favour returned.
