Zion: Up the canyon, east through the tunnel

A full-day route (about 8 h, roughly 10 km on foot, the second half by car). Start at the visitor centre, where the compulsory shuttle departs: in season the Scenic Drive is closed to private cars and the upper canyon can only be reached by shuttle or on foot. The shuttle runs from about the beginning of March to the end of November, in high season roughly 6 am to 8 pm every 7–15 minutes; the last bus from the end of the line leaves well before dark. The timetable changes every year — the one at the stop, or nps.gov/zion, is the one that counts. From stop 9 the route continues by car east along the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway. There is an entrance fee. Bring plenty of water, and shoes for the Narrows that are allowed to get wet.
